Pool in Tuscany Villa

4 Bedrooms, 5 Baths - sleeps 10

In the splendid hills of Val d'Orcia one of the first families of Italian style has renovated a Tuscan estate to the highest quality of design and comfort.

The idyllic estate is located just a few kilometers from Sarteano and near two of the most famous villages of Tuscany, wonderful Bagno Vignoni and Pienza. Rome is a two hour drive, Siena an hour, and Florence an hour and a half.

The large and beautiful country home dates to the 16th century. The house is accessed across a stone-paved courtyard. The ground floor has a large entrance hall with a stairway that leads up to the second floor. There you find a large living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen, a lovely veranda with a grape arbor, a second living room, and an office with another terrace that faces west for enjoying the sunsets. Can you feel your blood pressure dropping?

From the main corridor, you gain access to a mezzanine level due to the house rising up the hill. There you find a second office and a guest bathroom, then more steps for a bedroom with en suite bathroom. The third floor (American designation) has a large master suite with fireplace, bathroom and dressing room. On this level are also two double bedrooms both with bathrooms with Jacuzzi hydro massage.

Also within the house are two small service bedrooms with a bathroom with shower that are designed for servants but can also serve an extended family or group.

The pool area with its peaceful views, has a shaded pergola and, among the flowers, a pool house with a bathroom, changing room, and outdoor shower so you can relax without going back and forth to the house.

The decorating is exceptional, inspired, and has been featured in design magazines. It exaggerates the rustic Tuscan style and antiques with intense colored accents and warm colored walls. The native 'cotto, terracotta, floors, rush mats, wood beamed ceilings, fire places and native stone walls preserve and respect the traditional elements of a ancient country house. The casual furnishings are comfortable and welcoming. This is a home for relaxing, contemplation and inspiration.

This is the private and beloved country home of the owner who, although he does not use it often, enjoys hosting guests of quality who will love his home and the splendid location as he does. Occasional guests ensure the house is loved and does not sit empty but is filled with the spirit of enjoyment and inspiration.

The Val d'Orcia's location, that is convenient to both Rome and Florence, is the vacation area of choice for Italy's elite. It was late to develop popularity so has retained an unspoiled beauty that is now being officially protected by the communities of the valley.

This peaceful valley is a spectacular mixture of art and landscape. It is so unique that Medieval and Renaissance artists painted here to capture the extraordinary light and breathtaking beauty. A number of films have highlighted the beauty of the area including "The English Patient,"  scenes in Andrei Tarkovsky's film, "Nostalgia" were filmed in Bagno Vignoni and scenes in "Under The Tuscan Sun" were filmed in Montepulciano and along the famous cypresses lined roadways of the Val d'Orcia. Celebrated are the architectural and artisitc treasures of Pienza, Montalcino, the abbey of Sant'Antimo, the monastery of Sant'Anna in Camprena, the fortresses of Montalcino, Radicofani and Rocca d'Orcia, the medieval baths of Bagno Vignoni, and the 'grancia' of Spedaletto. Recently the Cultural, Artistic and Nature Park of the Val d'Orcia has been established to manage and protect this pristine area. Locally produced products include  pecorino cheese, wine, oil, honey and saffron.

Villa in Tuscany Luxury Bulgari

A covered patio is an outdoor room that invites peaceful contemplation of the rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia.

Villa in Tuscany Val d'Orcia

The rambling country house was constructed in the 1600s of native stone. The thick stone walls keep the interior cool in the summer time and insulate in the winter.

Customer Comments

The house is really fabulous, incredibly clean, beautifully renovated and appointed. It is comfortable, restful and has good karma. The landscaping is terrific. We had amazing weather and went out touring most days. The trips to Pienza and Montepulciano were less than half an hour because of the convenience of SS53; for trips farther north, we had to go all the way to the A1 and that made those longer. The Val d'Orcia area is very sparsely populated so the privacy element is huge. It also made our late afternoons and evenings by the pool very relaxing. The pool itself is fabulous. At night we could see only a few distant lights of farms in the valley. There are beautiful views in every direction and from every window. The housekeepers and the groundskeepers are lovely people. The children love the two large, proud and friendly dogs that guard the property. It was a sad day when we left, everybody wants to go back. My son asked if we could buy the Casale Rubino.
