Vacation Apartment in Rome

Luxury Apartment by the Spanish Steps

Sleeps 6 with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths

Luxury apartment where you can enjoy a privileged life style appropriate to the finest neighborhood in Rome.

Location

Overlooking the exclusive Hotel d'Inghilterra and on the corner of Via Condotti in Rome, the Valentina apartment is in the heart of all that is elegant in the Eternal City. A two minute walk puts you in front of the Spanish Steps, a location that is so popular because it is so central. Stroll for 15 minutes and you can find yourself at most of the noteworthy sites of historic Rome.

Building

The building mirrors the neighborhood, a proper "palazzo" built about 250 years ago when the Princes Torlonia were amassing their fortunes by managing the fortunes of the Vatican and build the palace across the street. The warm ochre of the Palazzo, enhanced by its white marble casements, dominates the near-view from two of the living room windows. The palace is subtly lit at night; it glows but doesn't glare into the windows of Leone.

The apartment is on the third floor (second, European designation) and adjoins the Renata apartment that, if available, can be rented at the same time to sleep up to twelve people, two of whom would occupy the sofa-bed in Renata.

Interior Description

Spacious and quiet elegance typify this fine apartment. Four large windows light the living room, two look up Via Condotti towards the Spanish Steps and two overlook Hotel d'Inghilterra and via Bocca di Leona.

Two white sofas are grouped by the working, gas fireplace that features stonework from the ancestral home in southern Italy. The hand-hewn ceiling beams have been exposed to display the room as it was originally designed. Also in the living room are some fine antique pieces, a sideboard, a desk, and a long dining table that will seat eight. The living room has a television with satellite reception. The apartment is wired for high-speed internet.

Next to the living room is a good-sized bedroom that can be configured with twin beds or a queen. The closet area is great for travelers with spaces for stowing your suitcases and open shelves and rods that keep your items in view. The closet leads to a bathroom with step-in shower that has a fixed shower head as well as hand-held shower.

From the large entry, one can enter the living room or proceed down the hallway to laundry, kitchen, small bedroom and second large bedroom. The hallway has floor to ceiling French doors that open over a railing onto the internal courtyard. It is a great way of bringing in cooling breezes and the warm Roman weather.

The floors are tile throughout.

Off the hall is a nook that contains a washing machine across the hall from the well-lit, galley-style kitchen that has a four burner stove top, microwave oven, dishwasher, small refrigerator/freezer, toaster and coffee maker. Also included for the guests are dishes, flatware, and pots and pans for guest use.

The next bedroom is the smallest, with just room for a single bed and an antique desk with a large antique mirror. The sixth sleeping place is perched high in this room, accessed by a ladder. The sleeping loft with safety rails has a French twin, i.e. large twin mattress. A little shelf for your book and glasses and a reading light are all you find up here. There is however, an air conditioning unit high in this room so it will be comfortable even during hot nights.

Directly across the hall is a bathroom with a small step in shower stall with telephone style shower head that can be used by the small bedroom occupants and also is easily accessed by guests.

The second large bedroom features a configurable twin/queen bed. A small balcony with planters opens onto the interior of the block with views of several nice terraces and well-gardened balconies. The dressing and closet area is well thought out for guests with space to stow luggage and open shelves and rods for clothing. The closet area leads to a bathroom with Jacuzzi tub with fixed shower head above it as well as a handheld shower.

Weekly rent includes one and a half hours of housekeeping each weekday.

Passed Pat's inspection:

  • The owner has wonderful taste and has used this apartment and Renata next door to display art and antiques from her ancestral home.

  • To give a sense of calm land luxury, linens and upholstery are primarily crisp white.

  • Particular attention has been paid to the needs of vacation guests so that there is a place for luggage and closets are open so things don't get lost in drawers.

  • All bathrooms are equipped with a fixed-head shower as well as a hand-held one.

  • The location is terrific.

  • The loft bed will probably appeal only to teenagers; you can't stand up in the loft and you've got to clamber up on a ladder.

  • Via Condotti is a pedestrian-only street, except for taxis, local deliveries and motorini (motor scooters) that seem to buzz around with impunity. In the warm months the murmur of the pedestrians can carry up to open living room windows.

  • The master bedroom and small bedroom windows open onto the interior courtyard, quiet.

Rome was the highlight of our trip. This is the 3rd time traveling to Europe with the kids and each time we have the best time.

The accommodations were perfect. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. I'm particular and this
apartment worked out beautifully - from the location to the linens and towels. The layout worked out great as well. My son, Tommy (12) loved the small room with the loft and my daughter, Sarah (10) loved having the larger bedroom in the back to her self with the large closet.

It's hard to say what we liked the most - for me it was the bed in the master bedroom. The comforter and linens were great and it's the best nights' sleep I had in Italy.

The only problems we encountered were the water pressure in the back bathroom shower. The kids used our shower which was fine. [Water pressure is a city-wide issue, maybe that is why Romans prefer baths in tubs. Pat]

The location was perfect for us. We walked everywhere, even to the Vatican and the Colosseum. Each night we walked to dinner and back which was great and we loved all of the shopping.

Our favorite restaurants were Nino's; Ristorante Mario; and Recafe. I was a big fan of the fresh produce market at the end of the street every morning. The vendors were so cheerful and helpful and the cafe on the way was great. I got pastries for the kids every morning on my way back from the open market.

I would recommend anyone use Ann Hogan, private tour guide. She made our visit to the Vatican an amazing experience. We could not have done it justice on our own and 3 hours flew by.

Our greeter did a great job filling in and was very helpful with some recommendations. I will definitely look to using your service again when we go back to Italy - and your sister's if it's London or Paris
