Central Rome Italy Vacation Rental Apartment

Two Bedrooms, Two Baths with all the Amenities

Sleeps 4 + 2

Located in the center of Rome, convenient to sightseeing and shopping, this apartment is across the Tiber from Piazza del Popolo and close to the Vatican Museums and great shopping. This is a first class, spotless apartment that is also a fine value.

The Tiberio vacation apartment in Rome is located in the elegant and popular Prati neighborhood. It is just two blocks from the Tiber river making it an easy walk across the Ponte Margherita bridge to the beautiful Piazza del Popolo or, if walking in the other direction, it's an easy stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo (During the summer, there is special entertainment and access to normally closed parts of the Castel Sant'Angelo) and the Vatican. By crossing the bridge in front of the Palace of Justice just before Castel Sant'Angelo, you can reach Piazza Navona in 15 minutes by foot.

Just outside your door is one of the most popular shopping areas for locals, the Via Cola di Rienzo which features fine clothing and gourmet food shops, good restaurants, cafes and prices that are a bit lower then the more touristy areas of the historic center. One of our favorite year-round covered markets is just up the Via Cola di Rienzo where you can shop the stalls for fresh produce, dried and fresh poultry and meat, delicious handmade pasta and bouquets of beautiful fresh flowers. Even if you're not in a buying mood be sure to stop into this unique market just to see how high the Italian standard is for quality when it comes to food! The produce vendors recommend what's fresh and will tuck into your bag just the right herbs to season a minestrone or to complement a delicate pasta dish. There are two very well-known Roman gourmet food shops are nearby, where you can browse the selection of prepared foods for take-away or pick-up special sweets. Also convenient is the large Standa supermarket about a 7-minute walk away, which is one the most popular features of this area since it has an excellent selection of standard grocery items, house wares and deli foods.

This is a comfortable, recently remodeled Rome apartment perfect for a couple or a family. The 19th century building is entered off a quiet street that is lined with apartment buildings. Just off the lobby area is a courtyard that gives the building a restful feel, particularly after you have been out on the busy streets of Rome. The Prati neighborhood is much sought after by locals since this is such a pleasant, livable area. We personally like it because it provides a bit of a breather from the more congested areas of Rome yet it's still an easy walk to the center and you feel more like a local. The handy Lepanto subway stop is only a few blocks away, about a seven minute walk. The Metro will carry you to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain or Train Station in minutes.

The Tiberio apartment is located on the third floor U.S. (second floor European designation) and has an elevator. Once inside the apartment doors, a handsome entryway with warm hardwood floors, greets you. The living room is to the left, the kitchen and master bedroom to the right and the second bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. The living room has very high, brick-vaulted ceilings and a tall double window that overlooks the street below. The sofa is comfortable, and converts to a queen. Two upholstered armchairs make this a casual and welcoming room in which to relax. There is a satellite TV and a multi-region DVD player. There is a small collection of DVDs mostly in English; you are welcome to bring your own, too.

High speed internet is available for no additional charge. If you've ever spent time hunting for a reliable internet point around Rome, you'll appreciate the convenience of being able to sit in your quiet, clean apartment with your laptop, handling whatever you need to via email whenever you have time. I hesitate to carry my laptop, but I get so much more done in equipped apartments than in grubby internet points, it is worthwhile. Extend your stay and work from Rome; there is a landline phone, international calls are very inexpensive and with internet access who is to know where you are working from.

The sizable and sparkling kitchen is completely outfitted with modern, high quality appliances, a table and chairs, large refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, 4-burner gas stove, electric oven, microwave and washing machine. There are many dishes, serving pieces, pots and pans.

The apartment is furnished with enough toilet paper, bath soap, shampoo, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, salt, pepper, coffee, tea, sugar, oil and vinegar to save you from having to run to the store for these items for several days. If you would like it to be further stocked with some food essentials, we are happy to organize that service.

The master bedroom is large enough with a king size bed and an adjoining bathroom. A charming aspect of the bedroom is the French doors that open to reveal the tranquil courtyard below. A clothes line extends the length of the railing for drying laundry. (There is also a laundry rack inside the apartment.) Inner courtyards are common in the city as this is where the "real" city living gets done. You may hear people going about their daily lives, hanging out laundry,  enjoy the aroma of a neighbor preparing something wonderful for dinner, and mothers calling to their children to hurry up.

The ensuite tiled bathroom is narrow, but well-lit, with a window opening onto the inner courtyard. The large sink has adequate counter space and a small shelf unit provides room for your toiletries, a glass stall shower, toilet and bidet.

Stairs from the entry reach the second bedroom and second bathroom. Because the second level of the apartment was architected out of the very high ceilings of the downstairs bedroom, the ceiling height upstairs is low, 178 cm, so best accommodates children or people less then 5'5" tall. The bed is trundle-style so can be used as a single or two twins. A tiny window in the corner opens to the inner courtyard. The upstairs bathroom is nearly identical to the downstairs bathroom, narrow but adequate.

Also upstairs, above the staircase, is a convenient, large and easily accessed storage space for suitcases.

This apartment remodel was done in 2004 so everything is new and fresh. A two bedroom, two bathroom that is as comfortably furnished as Tiberio, and can sleep up to six people is not easy to find in this central part of Rome, which is why we recommend it so highly.

We have inspected this apartment and our opinion.

  • Everything has been considered, so it has all the amenities.

  • Well organized and clean.

  • It's a bit of find because of its pleasant location and ability to accommodate a family at a reasonable price.

  • No street noise could be heard.

  • The upstairs bedroom and bath is only for short people; children really like it.

  • The bathrooms are narrow.

Just wanted to say 'thanks' for a wonderful experience in Rome! I called Rosie from the airport and she was waiting at our door when we arrived! The apartment was exactly as you described it and looked exactly like the pictures. This is so important when travelling! It weas spotlessly clean and ready for all 6 of us. One of the toilets was not working when we arrived, but was quickly repaired within a few hours at no inconvenience to us. Other than that, everything worked! The apartment owner was kind enough to call  just before we left, asking if everything was OK. Thanks, until the next time!

Jennifer S, July 2007

The apartment was wonderful - we are so glad that we opted to stay in one rather than a hotel. It was immaculate and stocked with everything that we could possible need. The location was midway between two metro stops. We used the metro every day, and it was never more than a ten minute walk. We shopped with the locals at the market located in the COIN Department store. The cashiers have limited english, but it was not a problem. The map that we used was FANTASTIC - it is titled "MapEasy's Guidemap to Rome. The girls think you should have more children's videos - some older Disney stuff.

Running two air conditioners for sleeping uses about 12 kilowatts of the 15 in our allowance so you do need to be conscious of the electric. We opted to wash dishes by hand to conserve electricity - no big deal. The washing machine takes 2 hours 10 minutes to do a load of wash - just good to know because I thought something might have been wrong.

Stafano is wonderful - always on time and very concerned about doing a good job. He does have limited english. He arranged our Vatican Tour with a private guide - an absolutely great decision with the summer crowds. Favorite sights St John Lateran Basilica St Clement Church - this is near the Colosseum. It has three churches, one on top of the other. You take steps down to a Roman temple from the 5th century, and then more steps down to a pagan temple from the 2nd century. It was very cool.

We found that if you stayed at least 3 or 4 blocks away from tourist sights, you could save a lot of money on food, and still get great meals. Every meal was great - I haven't had good pizza since leaving Rome.

ROMA PASS is a great deal AS LONG AS one of your three days to use the card will not be a Monday. It includes unlimited use of Metro and buses, but you need to know that most of the sites and museums included for admission are closed on Mondays.

Take good conditioner - the water is very hard on your hair. Also, Ryanair worked out great for our travel from Frankfurt to Rome. Just in case any future clients are visitng multiple countries.

Pat, I have told everyone how great it was to stay in the apartment, and we all agree that it really enhanced our experience. Thanks for your help and info Sincerely, Pat L., Pennsylvania, July 07

We had a fantastic time in Rome. The apartment was perfect for us. We loved the neighborhood, very few tourists, lots of friendly locals. Very quiet, yet very close to important transportation hubs. We liked the little pastry shop only a block or less away (Sanzini?), and the various restaurants nearby—one, especially, that featured mushrooms (we called it the Funghi Restaurant— I think it’s real name was Da Lucia). Also the pizzas at Osteria di Cicerone. Good gelato shop on Cicerone, too, near where it meets Cola di Rienzo.

The air conditioning in the apt came in handy, as it was very hot during parts of our visit, but we also found that opening and closing the shutters and the windows, as suggested in the materials you sent us, was almost always enough to take care of cooling the place.

It was so convenient to walk a block to the Tiber, a couple of blocks to the Lepanto Metro station, and a couple of blocks in the other direction to the bus stops on Via Cicerone. One thing that was very difficult, we found, was learning how to get around using the bus transit system.

The only thing we had trouble with in the apartment was the Internet connection. We finally got it to work, but it took a while.

Everything else about the apartment was perfect. I would recommend it highly. The luxury of two bedrooms and two bathrooms may not be necessary for everyone, but it was right for our party (three adults, one child). The charmingly cool inner courtyard, funny little elevator, marble floors, vaulted ceilings, etc. were ideal. Note that the bathrooms are indeed narrow....this didn’t bother me, but my husband is a big man and he found it a little annoying.

Your services (Excellent Europe) were wonderful. We found the materials you sent us very useful. I am indeed planning trips to both London and Paris, and would be most pleased to use the services of your sister company

Thanks again-- Lynn, California, May 2007

Apartment was great. Definitely limited headroom upstairs. Nice area, quiet. There was not a dryer (which I am sure was in the info you sent) but I think whenever an American sees washer we just assume a dryer must be included. Maybe highlight that point. Appliances were all excellent.

I totally forgot to call the owner from the airport and so arrived at the apartment and then realized I forgot. He was great and was there in about 30minutes. Next time I would use your car service and not have to worry about remembering.

Great walking, shopping. Good Grocery store a few blocks away (inside the Coin shop).

Lance W, November 2006

It was nice to be in an apartment that had washing machine, dishwasher, with plenty of proper crockery and cutlery and even pegs for hanging our washing outside the windows! Also, it was very nice to have basic things already there, such as salt, pepper, sugar, washing up liquid, even washing powder.

It was a good location, not touristy, so no tacky souvenir shops/stalls. Plenty of cafes, 'proper' Italian shops, especially on Via Cola Di Rienzo.

We recommend Osteria di Cicerone, a restaurant on Via Cicerone, not far from the flat. We loved it and our kids loved it, especially their pizze bianche!

Use the car and driver service instead of taxis to/from the airport: ours arrived on time and deposited us on time and was much cheaper than the taxi one we used from the airport to the flat.

Instead of joining the very long queues at the Colosseum for your entrance tickets, why not walk up to the Palatine ticket office (on the left past the Arch) and get them there. There's hardly any queues and the prices and what you're entitled to are the same

If you are going to use the 110 open bus (it's handy for all the major attractions), the one nearest to us is on Via Colonna. It's important as the stops are quite far apart from each other

October 2006, Andrew N, Edinburgh

We had a wonderful time. The apartment has a good location and the landlord was very hospitable and accommodating. I thought it was very reasonably priced. There was some construction going on right outside the building which took away from the “first Impression”. [Construction is on the neighboring building, not this building. No noise problem with it. pb] After we got out and walked around a bit, we realized that the area was not bad at all; there were many nice restaurants and a wonderful gelato shop a few blocks away.

July 2006, Stephen W, Illinois

The apartment has been well represented by you on your web-site. It is exactly as we expected. The kids especially liked their own “space” upstairs – we thought it was rather quaint with such a low ceiling. At 9 and 10 it’s perfect for them and since I’m short, I can stand also. My husband and I hardly went up except to say good night. They were totally independent up there.

We did like the location. It meant for some longer walking at times but we’re fit types and the kids didn’t complain too much…It’s good to be a bit away from the main tourist area. We really liked the Cola d”Rienza St. The Stranda [Standa department store] was great – went there every 2 days or so. We ended up eating about half of our dinners in because by the time we got back we were too tired to head out again, especially to the restaurants that were recommended (they tend to be in the historical center). But it was good as 2 nights we bought food from the “deli” you recommended and had delicious meals. Also, being so close to the Vatican meant that we saw the Vatican Museums one afternoon (went in after 12 as recommended) but were so tired after we came out after 4pm that we decided to do St. Peter’s another day.

We found one superb gelateria place on Cola d’Rienza called “Barila”. They had lots of flavours, gave generous portions and you were given a tiny cone on top to scoop ice-cream with. (It’s on the way to Stranda from the apartment but on the left hand side of the street). We only tried one pizzeria in the area but thought it was overpriced but there was a sudden rainstorm when we decided to go out for dinner so our choice was limited. The phone place right next door to the apartment is good for buying the phone chip.
