Vacation Apartment in Rome

Luxury Apartment by the Spanish Steps

Sleeps 5 with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths

Luxury apartment where you can enjoy a privileged life style appropriate to the finest neighborhood in Rome.

Location

On the corner of Via Condotti in Rome, the Renata apartment is in the heart of all that is elegant in the Eternal City. A two minute walk puts you in front of the Spanish Steps, a location that is so popular because it is so central. Stroll for 15 minutes and you can find yourself at most of the noteworthy sites of historic Rome.

Building

The building mirrors the neighborhood, a proper "palazzo" built about 250 years ago when the Princes Torlonia were amassing their fortunes by managing the fortunes of the Vatican and build the palace across the street.

The apartment is on the third floor (second, European designation) and adjoins the Valentina apartment that, if available, can be rented at the same time to sleep up to eleven people, one of whom would occupy the sofa-bed in Renata.

Interior Description

Spacious and quiet elegance typify this fine apartment. Two large windows light the living room overlook Via Bocca di Leona.

Two white sofas are grouped by the working fireplace that features stonework from the ancestral home in southern Italy. The hand-hewn ceiling beams have been exposed to display the room as it was originally designed. Also in the living room are some fine antique pieces, a sideboard, and a dining table that will seat six. The living room has a television with satellite reception. The apartment is wired for high-speed internet.

One sofa converts to a double bed for one person.

The flow is from the entry to living room or to down the hall to one bedroom. Off of the living room, one enters a small hall that leads to either the second bedroom or the kitchen.

The floors are tile with carefully selected patterns.

From the entry way, you can enter a bedroom suite that has twin beds that may be combined as a wide queen. The room has a set of square-framed antique prints above the bed and across the room the design is balanced with a mirror in horizontal strops. The closet area is great for travelers with spaces for stowing your suitcases and open shelves and rods that keep your items in view. The closet leads to a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub with shower.

Through the living room, you enter the second bedroom with a brass bedstead for the queen-sized bed. This bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a fixed shower head over jacuzzi tub. This bedroom has a special feature, a small study with a private balcony.

The kitchen is equipped with a four burner stove top, oven, dishwasher, small refrigerator/freezer, and drip coffee maker. Also included for the guests are dishes, flatware, and pots and pans for guest use.

The kitchen also has its own sunny balcony that is glassed in to form the breakfast area. This pleasant area is great for casual meals. The laundry nook is accessed from this area.

Weekly rent includes one and a half hours of housekeeping each weekday.

Passed Pat's inspection:

  • The owner has wonderful taste and has used this apartment and Valentina next door to display art and antiques from her ancestral home.

  • To best display the art and antiques and to give a sense of calm luxury, linens and upholstery are primarily crisp white.

  • Particular attention has been paid to the needs of vacation guests so that there is a place for luggage and closets are open so things don't get lost in drawers.

  • All bathrooms are equipped with a fixed-head shower as well as a hand-held one.

  • The location is terrific.

Customer Comments

The accommodations were spectacular. I highly recommend "Renata" to anyone visiting Rome. We were centrally located, able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, yet on a quiet street. The apartment has every convenience a guest might desire including a/c, television, washing machine. My son takes Latin in school and has studied quite a bit of Roman history so the high point of the visit for my family was definitely the ancient ruins. We used the Roma Pass to avoid lines at the Colosseum and the other sites and I definitely recommend it. We had practically no wait at all. We did not take tours but used the Rick Steves guidebook tours to navigate the sites. I highly recommend his Rome book. We also enjoyed the Vatican. Although crowded, we avoided waiting in line by going after lunch around 2:00. The museum of Rome was very good and not crowded. It provides some history of the ancient Roman period.

The owner of the apartment suggested several neighborhood restaurants and we ate at a few of them. All of our meals were good. As for shops, Renata is definitely in the upscale designer district. There is a nice department store nearby that is a bit more reasonable...La Rinascente, I think. We bought groceries at the store at the end of the road as suggested by the apartment owner. She is delightful and very helpful.
