Elegant Luxury apartment in Rome near spanish steps

Elegante Apartment on the Spanish Steps

Two Bedrooms and Two Bathrooms, Sleeps 4 + 1

In the historic center on the famous and fashionable Via Condotti is the gorgeous Elegante Rome vacation apartment. Elegante is so named because of this apartment's striking, handsome decor and location on one of the most prestigious, historic streets in Rome. A village atmosphere pervades the Via Condotti because it is a pedestrian street closed to through traffic. It is alive day and evening with locals and visitors strolling along, exhibiting "la bella figura" which is the Italian version of "seeing and being seen."

Its refined building is entered exactly between Rome's Gucci and Bulgari flagship stores; an inner courtyard provides a peaceful retreat from Rome's busy streets. Take the elevator up to the 5th floor to reach the Elegante apartment. Before we provide more apartment details, here's what we can't tell you: the name of the owners of the apartment who are one of Italy's first families and scions of an Italian luxury goods empire.

The fine furnishings, designed for both comfort and style, will make you feel at home as the decor of this Rome apartment is classic, but not stuffy or old-fashioned. This centrally located Rome apartment is spacious and gracious, while only steps from some of the Eternal City's most famous sites. The Spanish Steps on Piazza di Spagna is half a block away. Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Borghese Gardens are only minutes away on foot. The neighborhood has a wide variety of excellent restaurants and cafes. The famous Cafe Greco coffee house and tea room, meeting place of artists and poets since 1790, is directly across the street from the entrance to the Elegante apartment building.

When you step inside the large foyer of the Elegante apartment the beautiful mosaics on the floor are of the style of the ancient Romans, a foundation of the tradition of art that flourishes to this day in Rome. Off the foyer is a slender balcony that faces the internal courtyard of the building and runs the length of the living and dining rooms. The living room is richly appointed with beautiful contemporary artwork and a large sofa. Opposite the sofa is a second, smaller sofa flanked by two armchairs, providing ample seating for times when you want to relax in the apartment, have cocktails, chat or even take a nap stretched out on the large sofa. The living room has two sets of French doors that open onto the balcony, letting in lots of light and air and giving a feeling of even greater spaciousness to the already well-proportioned room. The dining area is a continuation of the living room, also with French doors to the balcony. This is a striking room simply appointed with a beautiful ebony finished dining table, hardwood floors and stunning silk drapes that match those in the living room. The dining table can accommodate up to 8 people.

The large modern kitchen has one large window facing the internal courtyard and is completely outfitted with modern, high quality appliances, a large GE refrigerator with freezer plus in-door ice dispenser (a rarity in Italy), dishwasher, 5-burner gas stove, electric oven, microwave , double sinks, and a variety of Italian espresso pots. It is well-equipped for serious cooks.

The two bedrooms are large and designed for comfort. Accessed off a small hallway off the foyer, they each have ensuite bathrooms. The arrangement separates the private and public areas of the apartment. The master bedroom is very large with a king size bed, high quality furnishings and and upholstery. The bedroom windows overlook Via Condotti. Look to the right out the bedroom windows and you can practically touch the Spanish Steps, just one-half block down the street! The adjoining master bathroom is white marble with double sinks, a large bathtub, a roomy fully-enclosed shower, toilet and bidet.

The second bedroom is large and has two twin beds and also has windows overlooking Via Condotti. A rollaway bed can be provided upon request for a 5th person. The large ensuite bathroom is of white marble, and has a sink, toilet, bidet and a tub with shower.

The small hallway that connects the two bedrooms also has a large walk-in closet for storing luggage or other personal items.

This apartment is of Five-Star quality that is superbly situated in the heart of Rome's historic center.

We had an absolutely fabulous time and loved the apartment and location…and Betta [the housekeeper]. She was so nice, friendly and helpful. We could adopt her! Also, the manager and her partner were very helpful in getting us settled and making sure we had whatever we needed (as was the doorman).

The apartment is very elegant and very comfortable for 4 or 5 people. It is really a wonderful apartment and we would love to stay there the next time we are in Rome (which will hopefully be next year – we love Italy). Since we ate all of our meals except breakfast out, we did not use the kitchen much but it seemed very well equipped.

I cannot imagine staying in a better location. Right at the Spanish steps which you can see from a window in the apartment. From there, we were able to walk most everywhere we wanted to go. Perfect location with much to see within relatively short distances.

I cannot think of any drawbacks or problems we had. The one thing you might tell future guests is about where to get a taxi especially at prime time (there is a stand in front of a church about 2 blocks away).

Within a few blocks from the apartment we ate at Ristorante Mario on Via della Vite which serves kind of classic Tuscan food – good antipastos and pasta; we had dinner at Nino’s which is on Via Borgognana. Great seafood, pastas and meats. We also ate at Ristorante 34 on Via Mario de Fiori which serves a wide variety of Italian dishes and was very popular. There is an Enoteca called Case Bleve which serves a fabulous lunch buffet and has a wonderful selection of wines. One restaurant I would not recommend is Camponeschi at Piazza Farnesse. They are simply a little too impressed with themselves and it is very expensive and we found the food to be not all that impressive. We had an excellent seafood meal at La Rosetta but it is very expensive and you should be ready to pay. Dal Bolognese on Piazza del Popolo was quite good although the waiters have a little bit of an attitude.

I really do not know what you can do to improve your service. You were very responsive and helpful to our requests and provided us with lots of information before we traveled to Rome.
