Charming Apartment in Central Florence - Sleeps 4
- Central Florence Apartment by the Ponte Vecchio
The apartment building is accessed through the
courtyard of this famous ceramics shop on Via
Guicciardini. The apartment building entrance can be
seen at the back of this photo with a statue of a dog
standing guard. These apartments are on the 3rd and 5th
floor and have balconies that overlook this courtyard.
Their balconies are in the same position as the second
floor balcony you can see above the dog.
The living room is furnished with a sofa that
converts to a bed and an easy chair. An antique hutch
holds dishes and the television set.
Antique hutch. There are actually two apartments and
that is why this one appears slightly different than the
one pictured above. The layout is identical between them
and the furnishings are very similar, although not
exactly the same.
Two windows in the living/dining room overlook a
large internal courtyard. The air conditioning unit for
the apartment is located above the narrow window.
Two windows in the living/dining room bring in a lot
of light. The dining room table seats four very
comfortably.
The large entry way features a desk and shelf. Full
height French doors open onto the balcony.
The balcony with a tiny table for two, perfect for a
cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the evening while
you watch the goings on in the neighborhood. This
balcony faces all the other balconies on the inside of
the large block of buildings.
The bedroom also opens onto the balcony. You can see
the vine-covered trellis on the balcony through the tall
French doors. The bed fills the end of the room with
space on each side for a shelf with reading lights. The
room also holds an armoire for your clothes.
The small, separate kitchen is has a four burner gas
stove top, microwave, and dishwasher.
A window in the kitchen overlooks the same large
courtyard as the living/dining room windows.
The bathroom lies between the kitchen and the
living/dining room. It is tiled with ceramic that has a
marbled pattern. It is equipped with a step-in shower.
This building stands where once stood the home of
Niccolo Machiavelli and where he wrote the history of
Florence. The building was bombed in 1944 but a few of
the blackened beams of the original building are built
into the current structure above the plaque pictured
here.
The apartment is a two minute walk from the Ponte
Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence. It bustles with
commerce, having a concentration of jewelry stores. The
gallery above the stores is a museum.
Great location in the charming Oltrarno district
and convenient to all the grand sights of
Florence.
