Florence Vacation Rental Apartment

Florence Apartment - Historic Center

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Balcony, Sleeps 2 + 2

This vacation rental apartment in Florence is a two minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio on Via Guicciardini, the street that connects the bridge to the Pitti Palace. Limited traffic area and quiet, inside apartment. A great location for sightseeing and shopping.

The location of these apartments couldn't be better. On the Oltrarno side of the river, just across the famous Ponte Vecchio, they offer comfort and an excellent location for activities within Florence. Via Gucciardini limits traffic to city residents and businesses during the daytime.

A destination for art history is the Pitti Palace that is a block and a half farther along Via Gucciardini. Just beyond is the entrance to the largest park in Florence, the Boboli Gardens. You can find quiet corners for contemplation and open spaces for kids to romp.

One of the most famous ceramic shops in Florence occupies the courtyard entrance and charms you with the glowing displays of Tuscan ceramics as you come and go. Ceramic production is a traditional craft in Florence and was transformed into high art by the della Robbia family during the Renaissance. You'll see beautiful della Robbia work throughout the city and reproductions right here at your front door.

As you enter the courtyard, look up to your right and discover a blackened beam with a plaque that tells you that this is an original beam of the house that Niccolo Machiavelli wrote and died in. Destroyed in 1944, this building was constructed using a few of these original beams.

It is twenty steps up from the entry door to a two-person elevator.

The apartments are internal and quiet. If you open windows and balcony doors, a refreshing breeze will flow through the apartment. You may hear your neighbors setting the table, the murmur of their conversations, and their televisions. You may smell espresso and tomato sauce at different times of day, too. It is not loud; everyone is in the same situation, so they are considerate. We found it rather nice to become aware of the daily rhythms of local life, not the sterile world of a hotel room. And we could always close up.

The entry hall is large enough to contain a desk and a small utility shelf. The bedroom has a large, comfortable bed, armoire, and bedside shelves with lamps so you can read in bed. It is cozy, with just enough room to get around the bed. The full height doors out onto the balcony make it bright. A down duvet is available for chilly nights.

The living/dining room is relatively large and very bright with two large windows. A comfortable sofa converts into a bed. There is an easy chair and an antique, country-style chest and dining table from the owner's grandmother. Many of the prints on the walls are also over 200 years old.

The kitchen is a separate room off the hallway with counters on two walls and a window. It offers everything you need for preparing full meals or re-heating the take-out that tempts from so many tavola caldas.

The bathroom is small with a shower stall and telephone-style shower. It is clean, the fixtures are relatively new, and has the essentials.

Quattro Leoni restaurant just around the corner comes highly recommended. A small grocery story is about a block past the Pitti Palace and you are very close to Piazza Santo Spirito where there is a daily open-air market. The nearest internet point is across from Palazzo Pitti just up the street.

Passed by Pat who personally inspected and photographed this apartment.

  • Comfortable and convenient
  • The decor is pleasant, comfortable, but not fancy
  • The separate kitchen is really great
  • Filled with light
  • We were able to relax and just enjoy hanging out a bit
  • The view is of other people's balconies, so you sort of are in a little village; we liked that
  • The location is excellent
  • Very quiet

Thank you for your help with the Ponte Vecchio apartment. We were so happy with it, especially with the manager who is such a dear.

Mira B, Massachusetts, March

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful apt in Florence. The apt was great, really perfect. And the manager was a darling, so helpful; and the people downstairs that run the little shop were sweet too (always saying buon giorno, etc. to us as we came and went). We loved the restaurant that she recommended -- 4 Leone. We had a wonderful time and hope to rent with you again next time. Please pass on our best regards and thanks. Best wishes,

Alyse D, Oregon, April 2007

Just a quick note to tell you how perfect our stay has been. My son and I really enjoyed the apt, the size, the quiet, the location and all your info. was indespensable. Thank you so much.

Accommodations? – We were very pleased. The manager was very helpful and nice. She exuded Italian charm. Got us reservations to a restaurant that wasn’t taking any!

Enjoy the most? it was very quiet.

Problems? - none

Location and the surrounding area? loved the fact that we were in the middle of it all and when one got to the apt – we didn’t hear all the goings and comings – perfect.

Nearby sites?  – I loved the piazza Michelangelo – we walked up all those stairs and were rewarded by the views!

Tips for future guests? – get up early to get a jump on all the sites – buy good walking shoes

Accommodations were excellent.  Great location and quiet.  Great size for two people.

Enjoy the most?  We enjoyed having the kitchen and having more space than we would have in a hotel.

Problems?  Not really.  The couch was a bit small for 2 people to lay on.  =)   More TP and paper towels for guests.

Location and the surrounding area?  Excellent location.  It was a lot of fun being at the base of the Ponte Vecchio.

Nearby sites, restaurants or shops?  We rented bikes and mopeds from Florence by Bikes.  We really enjoyed having both.  Great way to tour town.  La Fondue on Via Della Fonderia 1R was a great restaurant.  We took language classes at Koine and left information on all of the things we liked on the bookshelf.

Any tips for future guests?  Rent bicycles.

Excellent Europe's service was excellent and the manager was great.
