Holiday Apartment in
Florence, Italy
Two Bedrooms, One Bath, Sleeps
4 + 1
Next to Boboli Gardens
This is a very elegant, quiet neighborhood
unknown to most tourists. Set among a few small
quiet streets are two-story residences that were
built in the 1920's. From the apartment to the
Ponte Vecchio it is about a 20 minute walk. From
there it's an easy walk to all the
major sites but you can escape to a private
peaceful retreat with plenty of greenery and your
own garden and terrace. It is behind the Boboli
Gardens and called the "Bobolino," or
little Boboli Gardens.
The Boboli Gardens, which are directly behind
the apartment, are Florence's only central public
gardens and were commissioned by the Medicis, thus
the naming of this as the "Medici"
apartment. To the east is the glorious walk up
Viale Niccolo Macchiavelli to the million-dollar
view of Florence from the Piazzale Michelangelo.
No need to go to the gym if you make this walk up
the hill each day to the top where you'll enjoy
spectacular views of the city, particularly the
dome of the Duomo cathedral.
The Medici apartment is on the bottom floor of
a two-story building that consists of only two
units. As you enter the quiet, narrow street where
the apartment is located you'll see the stone
walls of the Boboli Gardens directly in front of
you. The street is less then one block long and
dead-ends at the ancient wall. It's a 15-minute
walk to the Pitti Palace or the lively Piazza
Santo Spirito which has many excellent restaurants
and a daily outdoor produce market. The Ponte
Vecchio is a 18 minute walk.
This lovely apartment is a rare find in
Florence since it has the privacy of a town home,
it's own back terrace where you can enjoy meals al
fresco and the benefit of free on-street parking
if you would like to have a car handy for day
trips to the Tuscan countryside. It was completely
remodeled in 2004 so all furnishings and
appliances are brand new.
The living room has a very large window that
opens out onto the small street and overlooks the
neighbor's beautiful wisteria vines and palm tree.
The lush vegetation gives a very Mediterranean
aura to the apartment and will make you feel like
you're in the country even though you're only
minutes away from famous sites like the Duomo, the
David, and the Ponte Vecchio! The second bedroom
has a large window that overlooks the street as
well. The master bedroom and bathroom are at the
back of the apartment and each have windows
opening onto the back garden and terrace. The
kitchen has French doors that open onto the
terrace. The floors are handsome polished
terracotta tiles that have just been completely
restored.
The living room has two brand new comfortable
divans accessorized with sumptuous throw pillows.
If you want to just sit and relax at home, there
is plenty of reading light from the lamps next to
the sofas. In the corner of the living room is a
dining table and four cushioned dining room chairs
so that you can have meals indoors if you prefer.
Gaze out the living room window and you'll see the
ancient walls of the Boboli Gardens immediately to
your right.
The master bedroom has an armoire for clothing
storage and a very comfortable brand-new mattress.
The lamps on the night stands on either side of
the bed provide good reading light. The cheery
second bedroom is furnished with two twin beds, a
night stand with a lamp and an armoire for
clothing.
The kitchen is completely new with top-quality
cabinets and appliances. There is a four-burner
stove, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, all new
dishes, pots, pans and cooking utensils. You'll
find this kitchen to be a delight to cook in. On
the other hand, you're in Florence and on
vacation, so chances are you'll be eating out at
the many nearby excellent restaurants most days.
However, the wonderful selection of fresh seasonal
ingredients might tempt you to cook at home. Just
at the edge of the neighborhood, in the Piazza
Porta Romana, are a few daily produce stands that
sell fresh fruits and vegetables, so handy if you
need a few last-minute items.
The bathroom has just been completely remodeled
with white tiles, good under-the-sink storage,
toilet, bidet and shower.
The Medici apartment has a lovely outdoor space
a garden and terrace. It's small, but large enough
for five to sit around the table and enjoy summer
meals. There is a patio table with umbrella. You
can just step right out onto the terrace from the
kitchen. This is a country where meals al fresco
is a way of life and you'll find yourself getting
into the swing of things, even if it's just
lingering over a cup of coffee and reading a good
book outside on the terrace in the mornings.
A DVD and CD player are provided along with a
small selection of movies and music. But bring
along your own as well to enjoy. There is a
selection of guidebooks for you to peruse and
enjoy when you arrive and provide an extensive
list of our favorite restaurants and tips on where
to shop.
Within a few blocks are several small fruit and
vegetable stands and other food stores. Nearby is
Piazza Santo Spirito which has several nice
restaurants and a daily outdoor produce market.
Via Guicciardini which runs in front of the Pitti
Palace has plenty of shopping, restaurants. We can
also recommend our favorite, not-too-touristy,
restaurants where you can sample delicious &
affordable Italian cuisine. High-speed Internet
access available at an Internet check point across
from the Pitti Palace (the cost is reasonable -
approximately $4 for 1 hour of access).
Please contact us if you have any questions or
would like to make a booking.
This is a non-smoking house. No pets please.
We have personally
stayed in this property. Our evaluation is:
- Warm and
welcoming.
- Furniture is
very good. The two sofas in the living room
are a great place to relax.
- The DVD player,
DVDs for all ages, and the stereo allowed us
to hang out and have a quiet evening at home.
- The quiet of
this neighborhood is a whole different
Florence. Very charming.
- Take the 12/13 bus down to Porta Romana to
save on the walk.
