Florence. Experience living in a true palace and
walking to all the sights in this city treasured
for its art. This apartment is especially large
and luminous with comfortable and gracious living
room with a view of the Duomo that you will
remember for a lifetime.
If you are a larger party, there
are several vacation rental apartments within this
same building.
Location
The location is excellent, right
on Piazza Antinori. There is bound to be some
traffic noise in this bustling district, but your
5th floor location will mitigate that. And, after
all, you are in a city. This also means that there
is a shop for each and everything you need or want
in the neighborhood. This quarter of Florence has
been home to important Florentine families since
the mid 1600s.
Exterior
The building has retained a
clean and simple aspect that is reminiscent of the
Renaissance period when it was first built.
Renovated over the centuries, the building
acquired its present appearance in the mid 1700s.
Interior Description
High in the Palazzo Diamante, on
the fifth floor (American designation), the Diana
apartment is bright and spacious. The foyer is
large and even has a window. A gold with blue theme
carries through from the foyer to the very large
living room that has two windows with views of the
dome of the cathedral of Florence as well as of
Giotto's beautiful bell tower. In the foreground
is the fascinating facade of San Gaetano the only baroque
church in Florence, allowing you to appreciate, up
close, the many decorative and architectural
elements that typify that architectural
style.
Three large sofas accommodate
guests, if you wish and mean that even if the sofa
bed is open, there is someplace to sit. Antique
prints are hung on the walls and the fireplace is
a focal point although it no longer works.
The bedroom opens off the living
room and it, too, has a view! The bed can be made up as twins or a wide queen.
There is an ensuite bathroom with shower over tub
as well as a second bath also with shower over
tub. Between the bedroom and the bath is a full,
walk-in closet so don't hesitate to indulge in
fashion.
The kitchen is small but fully
equipped. A breakfast bar runs under the
window.

apartment is large, appealing and comfortable.

Because
of the view and all the windows, it is
pleasant year-round, i.e. not dark and closed
in during the cooler months.

As
an architecture geek, I loved being able to
see the dome of the cathedral and Giotto's
bell tower while getting up close to the
facade of the church across the piazza. You
can really enjoy all the decorations typical
of the baroque. And if you are into sketching,
painting or photography there is the
opportunity to appreciate the play of light on
the facade throughout the day.
