Charming Apartment
with Terrace in the Heart of Florence
Sleeps
2 + 2 with 1 bedroom and 1 bath
Savor all that Florence offers
from a superb central location that also features
a spacious private terrace for enjoying the Tuscan
sun.
Location
This apartment is in a
wonderful, central location, steps from the Ponte
Vecchio and also very close to our Ponte
Vecchio apartments. This is the popular
Oltrarno area of Florence.
It overlooks a very interesting
historical and artistic Florentine landmark, the
Vasari corridor, an aerial passageway built by
Cosimo di Medici in the 1500s to connect his
nearby Pitti palace to his offices in the Uffizi.
This district of Florence is
called the Oltrarno and is very popular because of
its proximity and easy walk to all the popular
sights. It is also close to the expansive Boboli
gardens, so if you need a break from museums and
architecture, the gardens are a wonderful
attraction. Not far is Piazza Santo Spirito where
you can visit a weekday outdoor fruit and
vegetable market.
Building
Although the post-war
construction in Florence lack the charm of the
older buildings, the building is handsome, fits
well with its older neighbors and the apartments
are well laid out and efficient.
The building interior hallways
are clean and freshly painted. There are several
steps up to a small elevator.
The apartment is located on the
5th floor (American designation, 4th
European).
Interior Description
There is a small foyer when you
enter the apartment that has a little table and
mirror. The bedroom is directly in front of you
and is spacious and charming. The queen bed is a
standard Italian-style thick mattress, no box
spring. Very nice antique marble-topped dresser.
Night stands with little bedside reading lamps. A
single folding bed is tucked into the closet.
The living room is down the
hall; it is cute & bright. The sofa and
upholstered chair are adequate. They fit the space
nicely and do provide good seating. The sofa can
be opening to form a sofa bed for one person. One side of
the living room overlooks the street, Via de'
Bardi below with tall windows that go to the
floor. The other corner of the living room has
French doors that open onto the terrace. The
floors throughout are original composite
marble.
The terrace is the most charming
feature of the apartment. Large and well
maintained, it has a potted olive tree, some
well-tended potted plants and a bistro table with
two chairs. On sunny days you can extend a canvas
awning over most of the length of the terrace.
A second set of double doors lead from
the terrace to the kitchen. The terrace is a
wonderful spot for meals or cocktails outdoors on
balmy days. Church bells toll and it's a wonderful
sound while you sip your morning coffee or dine al
fresco.
The eat-in kitchen has a gas
range, electric toaster oven, under-the-counter
refrigerator, pots, pans, utensils. Italian and
American style coffee pots. Microwave. No
dishwasher.
The bathroom has a tub with
overhead shower. The washing machine is in a small
enclosure off the bathroom. There is a drying rack
for clothes you can put on the terrace.
The apartment is air
conditioned. With windows open you will experience
some noise from pedestrians in the street down
below since the popular Ponte Vecchio area gets
crowded. It is five floors so that helps, also the
living room and bedroom have double windows that
provide sound insulation. If you sleep with the
windows closed at night this should not be a major
issue. In the summer, you would need to be
comfortable with city sounds.
We have inspected this
apartment:
-
Excellent
location.
-
Well
furnished, tidy and clean
-
The
terrace is wonderful and real plus.
-
There
is an art theater on the ground floor of the
building next door that is seldom used and may
be closing, according to the neighbors.
-
There
will be street noise from pedestrians and even
though this is in a limited traffic zone,
locals do drive down Via de' Bardi.
